8 more Candlekeep Mysteries adventure prompts teased by WotC

With less than two weeks to go until the adventure anthology Candlekeep Mysteries hits the shelves at gaming stores everywhere, Wizards of the Coast is ramping up excitement by teasing a few of the short stories on Twitter.

The official Dungeons and Dragons Twitter account has been releasing brief synopsis since February 18, as we covered in a February 20 article that reported on the first two adventures to see the social media spotlight.

These two are Shemshime’s Medtime Rhyme, a Level 4 adventure by Ari Levitch, and Zikran’s Zephyrean Tome, a Level 10 adventure by Taymoor Rehman.

Here’s what the Dungeons and Dragons’ Twitter account had to say about the former: “A catchy and contagious rhyme traces back to a sinister clockwork book. Trapped in one of Candlekeep’s cellars, the characters must figure out the best way to stop the spread of this odd contagion.”

And here’s the write up for the latter: “A djinni trapped in a book offers a wish spell to adventurers to find a way to release him. The key to the djinni’s freedom lies with his former master, a mad wizard on the cusp of mastering elemental magic.”

In the two weeks since, WotC has released even more teasers from Candlekeep Mysteries on Twitter, including the level 1 romp the Joy of Extradimensional Space by Michael Polkinghorn: “A book leads characters on a quest to find a missing sage. This adventure, inspired by the Mordenkainen’s magnificent mansion spell, presents a memorable introductory mystery for new arrivals to Candlekeep.”

Next was Kienna Shaw’s level 11 adventure the Curious Tale of Wisteria Vale: A book holds the key to freeing Arrant Quill, who has languished in a demiplanar prison for years, waiting for a cure to his madness. The adventurers must administer the cure but Quill is not the greatest danger in this prison plane.”

February 24 saw information about the level 15 adventure by Adam Lee, Alkazaar’s Appendix: “A book chronicles an unsolved mystery about a wandering stone golem in the desert of Anauroch. The golem is part of a larger mystery that unfolds as characters explore, ending with the discovery of a necropolis buried in the sand.”

Level 7 will see adventurers explore Derek Ruiz’s Sarah of Yellowcrest Manor: “A haunted book points a ghostly finger at the perpetrators of an unsolved mass killing in Waterdeep. This mystery features urban and dungeon exploration, as well as a potentially new, otherworldly campaign villain.”

And level 4 will delve into A Deep and Creeping Darkness, an adventure written by Sarah Madsen: “A book describing a mining disaster prompts adventurers to search for a missing town. This mystery keeps players guessing until the end and makes clever use of a D&D monster that rarely gets much love.”

Book of Cylinders by Graeme Barber will take PCs through level 6: “Engraved cylinders contained within a book tell a gripping tale when rolled across wet clay. This adventure updates the grippli (distant relatives to bullywugs) for fifth edition and sheds some light on grippli society.”

Level 3 adventurers will take on the Book of the Raven by Christopher Perkins: “A treasure map tucked inside a book leads adventurers to a remote hilltop chalet occupied by a secret society. This adventure has the trappings of a haunted house mystery and provides a possible route into the Shadowfell.”

And finally, a grisly tome titled with one word Xanthoria will await those who make it to level 16, courtesy of Toni WInslow-Brill: “A fell grimoire helps adventurers end a fungal plague. But Xanthoria is more than just the name of the book; it’s the last word spoken by those who succumb to the plague, and adventurers who pursue the book’s leads will soon find out why.”

Candlekeep Mysteries released on March 16. The book retails for $50, and those hoping to get their hands on it ASAP can preorder on Amazon and save 30% — dropping the price down to $35US. Preorders are also available at your local gaming stores and through Barnes & NobleBooks-a-MillionD&D BeyondFantasy Grounds, and Roll20.
