Wizards of the Coast just dropped an ominous coded message on Twitter

Well, if any company knows how to put its fans on edge, it’s Wizards of the Coast.

The creators of Dungeons and Dragons dropped a coded message on its D&D Twitter account on Monday morning in the form of a 40 second video.

With no audio, the video only shows a spirit board with a cypher moving all on its own, spelling out the letters THEMISTBECKONS, which we can only assume becomes either THEM IS TBECK ONS or THE MIST BECKONS.

Seeing as we have no clue what a TBECK is, we’re going to go with the latter.

Anyone who has played the infamous Curse of Strahd module knows the importance that mist plays in Strahd von Zarovich’s Barovia, so we’re going to go ahead and assume it has something to do with the misty module.

This past October saw the Curse of Strahd Revamped version released just in time for Halloween, which came in an aptly-shaped coffin and featured a number of accessories, including a DM screen, a map, Tarokka cards, postcards, and more.

The revamped version of the campaign itself also saw notable changes in the Vistani, which the original campaign had implied were inherently sinister and lazy — not a good look for WotC to make an entire group of peoples inherently evil, especially when they were based on the real world Romani peoples.

Th revamped version made it clear that the Vistani are diverse and are capable of free will.

The 2020 version of CoS also includes a new paragraph about a character’s prosthetic leg, noting that they wear it openly rather than being ashamed of it.

We’re not entirely sure what it is exactly that WotC has in store for players and DMs when they say that “THE MIST BECKONS” but Twitter users obviously had a few takes:

A new Dungeons and Dragons title is expected to be announced on February 23 to be released on May 18, so be sure to keep an eye out tomorrow for some new information on what this all means.
