Release of the upcoming Dungeons and Dragons movie has been postponed

D&D fans may have to wait a little while longer before seeing the latest attempt to bring the game to the big screen.

While we’ve seen much good news about the casting, production, and filming of the upcoming Dungeons and Dragons movie, it has just been reported that the film’s official release date has been postponed, along with a number of other Paramount projects.

Variety reported on April 9 that Dungeons and Dragons was among 10 films that would see delayed released dates, including Top Gun: Maverick, Mission: Impossible 7, and Jackass 4.

The D&D movie was originally expected to hit theaters on May 27, 2022, and has now been postponed to a March 3, 2023 opening.

document from HASBRO’s recent Virtual Investor Event gave an update on the Dungeons and Dragons movie, stating the D&D film “is preparing to start principal photography in Ireland.”

HASBRO also noted that it has “engaged several writers to develop premium television projects designed as a foundation for a new robust brand universe.”

Casting announcements so far have included the names of Hugh Grant, Sophia Lillis, Rege-Jean Page, Justice Smith, Michelle Rodriguez, and Chris Pine.

No reason was given in the Variety article for the delays.
