It’s like Sophie’s Choice, but for nerds.
Twitter user Sarah (Ragan) Kelly (@GMdragonsarah) presented an interesting question to D&D fans everywhere on March 14.
- Check these out:
They said that, due to “budget cuts” you’d need to make the choice between dungeons OR dragons — you can’t have both.
Due to budget cuts, we can no longer have dungeons AND dragons. You can have one or the other. Which will it be?

The question prompted some hilarious responses, as well as an astounding 104 retweets, 38 quote retweets, and over 1,000 likes as of Monday morning.
One Tweeter suggested that the powers that be would likely just keep taking bits off of each budget, resulting in Dungeons and Dragons being downgraded to “a basement in the suburbs with a leak issue and a small lizard with a red nose.”
Basements and Basilisks
Then Cellars and ChameleonsWhen they get really desperate, you just have Gardens and Geckos.

The jury seems split down the middle when it comes to choosing one side or the other, however, with some reasonable arguments being made for both:

I can live with just the dungeons if need be. We’ve crawled through so many that at this point our knees have become damage resistant.

Dungeons – they require less upkeep than a dragon. Have you tried feeding a dragon? And the treasure they expect hoarding.
Where a dungeon can partly collapse and we think it is just part of the scenario, not failing to pay maintenance fees.

If you guys are doing cutbacks, rather than completely removing one element can I suggest an across the board downsizing to Graveyards and Giants instead?
Seems like most of the published adventures focus on undead and Giantkin anyway, I doubt anyone would even notice the change

Dragons!
If it comes down to keeping that hoard safe!
Also by foregoing the dungeon you avoid all those previous levels where pesky heroes gain enough levels to off the dragon!— Ignacio de Lucas (@ignaciodla) March 15, 2021
So… what’s it going to be?
