NADDPOD Listen Along: Introduction

Hello and welcome to this first installment of the NADDPOD Listen Along!

I am the Dispatcher, the eyes, ears, and typing fingers behind this little blog, and while I have no official affiliation with the Band of Boobs AKA the Choo Choo Crew AKA the wonderful creators behind Not Another D&D Podcast, I am what some could call a huge freaking fan of the podcast (hereafter referred to as “The Pod”).

I am also a fan of the recaps and commentary write ups found on Tor.com which tackle fantasy series like The Wheel of Time and Lord of the Rings, and provide a way for readers to go on those adventures all over again — without hauling around those heavy af books. The writers over at TOR also offer some eye-opening insights, which I hope to replicate here for my favourite Dungeons and Dragons podcast.

I briefly scoured the internet to ensure that something along these lines had not been done before, though if it has, I am sorry (the internet is a pretty big place, after all).

Before I dive into the logistics, here’s a little info off the jump for those who may be in the dark without any Goggles of the Night.

Not Another D&D Podcast, or NADDPOD, is a, you guessed it, Dungeons and Dragons podcast that first aired on February 8, 2018. The pod is helmed by Dungeon Master Brian Murphy with recurring players Emily Axford, Jake Hurwitz, and Caldwell Tanner — all of whom you may recognize from their stints on College Humor.

There are currently two main NADDPOD campaigns, Bahumia and Eldermourne, both DMed by Murph. Caldwell has DMed a side campaign called Trinyvale, Emily has run a seven-shot called The Maverus Chronicles (featuring recurring guest player Zac Oyama), and Jake has yet to DM anything… but we’re all hopeful that he one day will.

Bahumia wrapped up with its 100th episode on May 9th, 2020, and Eldermourne began on October 16 of that same year and has nine episodes so far (as of January 7, 2021).

Given that I’m hoping to eventually catch up to the current posting schedule, we’ll start off with Eldermourne. The plan is to listen to the new episode of NADDPOD each week, and in (what I hope will be) a timely manner, write up a recap and a commentary offering insights, predictions, highlights, etc.

I’ve already listened to the first eight episodes of the Edlermourne campaign, so the recaps and commentary of the first arc will actually be more of a relisten, and will be published post-haste in order to catch up. The hope is that I’ll be able to start another series covering the Bahumia campaign (and potentially Trinyvale and The Maverus Chronicles, eventually as well) while waiting for new episodes of Eldermourne to drop.

Given that I am planning on keeping up to date with all new episodes, the comment section will be a spoiler-allowed zone, and I encourage you all to offer up your hot takes, predictions, roses, and thorns as we make our way through the campaign — so if you’re not caught up, stay away from the comments!

Any and all corrections, criticisms, and concerns are welcomed (within reason, of course).

So, without further ado, check out the first NADDPOD Listen Along here!
